The GEF Small Grants Programme: Call for Proposals

The GEF project led the successful development of a now thriving eco-tourism sector in Kompong Phluk. Two eco-centres were constructed, and 700 women underwent training to become boat rowing tour guides through the region’s nearly 50 hectares of old-growth forests.

Call for Innovation Project on Blue Economy Project Proposal

Since July 2019, UNDP Cambodia has been implementing the GEF OP6 Innovation Programme on Blue Economy seeks to protect the ocean and coastal environment through the enhancement of the efficiency and sustainability of community-based blue economy. The initiative aims to identify, test and scale up innovative community-based projects that boost local livelihoods through better and sustainable use of ocean and coastal resources through active social inclusion.

UNDP Cambodia would like to invite local NGOs and CBOs working on sustainable natural resources and environmental management and poverty reduction along Mekong River and around Tonle Sap provinces and Coastal provinces of Cambodia to submit their project concept paper for the grants.

The Small Grants Programme (SGP) works directly by providing grants up to USD 50,000 per project and technical support to local NGOs and community-based organizations (CBOs).  Grants are distributed on a competitive basis. 

SGP will fund up to 50% of the total project cost with the remaining funding to be provided by the funded organization, community contribution and/or other donor support, either monetary or in kind and services.

Call for Proposal to Develop a SGP OP7 Country Programme Strategy

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) provides non-governmental and community-based organizations (NGOs/CBOs) in developing countries with grants to enable them to tackle global environmental challenges while addressing local sustainable development needs. In Cambodia, SGP implemented by UNDP Country Office started financing projects in 2005 and since then has succeeded in funding and providing technical support for nearly 218 grant projects.

UNDP Cambodia is looking for a qualified NGO or academic institution to develop the GEF SGP Country Programme Strategy in a participatory manner. The strategy outline should contain specific eligibility criteria to ensure the alignment of its activities with the SGP OP7 project document, the country’s national priorities, GEF 7 programming directions, and potential for synergy with UNDP and other partner agencies.  The responsible entity (non-governmental organizations or academic institutions) will be selected through an early call for proposals and funded through a grant.

Interested NGOs and academic institutions should submit applications containing name and organization registration, financial proposal and a brief methodology to develop the GEF SGP Country Programme Strategy.
