    Canada’s support for climate change adaptation

    Phnom Penh – Canadian has given US$2.2 million to support a UNDP-managed climate change adaptation project for the next two years. With the latest fund, the project – Promoting Climate Resilient Water Management and Agricultural Practices in Rural Cambodia – is now starting the second phase. Its targets are farmers and local authorities in 32 communes in Kracheh and Preah Vihear provinces.

    Greater efficiency needed in actions against climate change

    Phnom Penh – Government officials on Thursday called for greater programme and funding coordination in order to improve effectiveness in tackling climate change in Cambodia. “In a situation where resources are scarce and demand is high, strong coordination is fundamental for effective climate change responses among Government, development partners, civil society, academia and the private sector,” H.E. Sabo Ojano, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Environment, said.

    Cambodia launches strategic blueprint for tackling climate change

    Phnom Penh – Cambodia launched on Tuesday its first-ever climate strategic blueprint aimed at building the country’s resilience to deal with climate-induced natural disasters and promoting low-carbon development in the future. Prime Minister Hun Sen formally unveiled Cambodia Climate Change Strategic Plan (CCCSP 2014-2023) in the opening ceremony of the 3rd National Forum on Climate Change.

    Cambodia’s first disaster database system unveiled

    Phnom Penh – Cambodia’s first disaster management database is now up and running in time as authorities and development partners are working together to assist the government to respond to the aftermath of the recent flood. The National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) on Wednesday activated the system called Disaster Loss Database (CamDi), which stores information on a range of disaster events: flood, fire, storm, drought, lightening, pest outbreak, riverbank collapse, and epidemic.

    UN survey in Asia and the Pacific reveals why some men use violence against women and girls

    A UN study of 10,000 men in Asia and the Pacific, released today, found that overall nearly half of those men interviewed reported using physical and/or sexual violence against a female partner, ranging from 26 percent to 80 percent across the sites studied. Nearly a quarter of men interviewed reported perpetrating rape against a woman or girl, ranging from 10 percent to 62 percent across the sites.

    Work underway for Cambodia Human Development Report 2014

    Phnom Penh – The need to improve education quality and develop a skilled work force is the focus of the Cambodia Human Development Report (CHDR) which is planned for release in mid-2014. The report will be titled as “Investing in Human Development on the Road to Inclusive Growth.” Work on it is now underway following a consultation meeting that UNDP held with representatives of the government ministries and development partners on 8 August 2013.

    Cambodia, China and UNDP launch joint cassava project

    Phnom Penh – A trilateral agriculture project worth US$400,000 provided by China has been unveiled to assist Cambodia in boosting its cassava production for export.
