At the age of 12, Pharady, a girl from a small rural village in Cambodia, was sent 60 kilometers away to live in Kampot because her community did not have a high school for her to attend.
In a bid to increase school safety in Cambodia’s most vulnerable communities, UNDP and Save the Children have joined hands in the coastal province of Koh Kong.
The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), development partners, civil society, private sector and especially persons with disabilities are gathering to discuss and design a new 2019-2023 National Disability Strategic Plan (NSPD) to ensure persons with disabilities live in quality and equality.
With support from the UN Development Programme, Cambodia’s National Committee for Disaster Management is increasing capacity on preparedness for recoveryby localising international guidelines on post-disaster needs assessment and disaster recovery, and building the capacity of national and provincial officials to implement those guidelines
Landmines and ERW continue to be an issue in Cambodia as there remains about 2,000 km2 of contaminated land to be cleared. It is a threat to human security and national development. The number of casualties has decreased from 4,320 in 1996 to 58 in 2017, however, this is still considered to be among the highest in the world (CMAA, 2010).
Approximately 70% of Cambodian households derive all or an important part of their income from agriculture, yet the majority of agricultural production is dependent on the monsoon rain and natural floods/recession of the Tonle Sap Lake and Mekong River.
